Google Qibla Finder

During the month of Ramadan, more than 60 million people worldwide search for the direction of Mecca. But finding Qibla isn’t always straight forward.

Qibla Finder is a free web-based app that uses Augmented Reality to point you in the direction of Qibla, wherever you are.

 
 
 
 

I worked with the Google London team, our team in Dubai, and our agency partners Phantom to bring the mobile app to life every step of the way – from initial concept, to working alongside design on the UX, to the copywriting, naming, user research and creative positioning for the project.

One of my favourite details is the way the site’s colour changes depending on the time of day – blue in the daytime, and deep purple in the evening – as a subtle nod to the Ramadan fasting times.

For a beautifully simple experience, it was important to ensure it worked seamlessly on both Android and iOS, on mobile and desktop. The site was such a success, we were able to revisit the site a year later and optimise the copy and UX based on feedback and user insights.

I also created the content for the Google Ramadan site, which housed Qibla Finder as well as other useful ways Google can help you make the most of every day (and night) of Ramadan.
